Frequently Asked Questions

Is coaching the same as counselling?

No.

Coaching focuses on helping you develop awareness, confidence and practical strategies for positive change.

Counselling and therapy often explore mental health conditions, diagnosis or past experiences in greater depth.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Yes. Walk & Talk coaching and community-based sessions are available throughout Nairn and the surrounding area. Sometimes for person specific reasons we can do the sessions in your own home.

What if I am in crisis?

This is not an emergency service. If you are at risk or in crisis, please contact your local emergency services or a professional support line.

If you or someone else is experiencing mental distress and you are worried about your own or someone else's immediate safety:

  • Call 999 or go straight to A+E immediately.

  • If you are calling for someone else, try to establish the person’s, name, contact details and location

If the crisis is not life-threatening but you are concerned for your own or somebody else’s mental wellbeing:

  • Advise them to call NHS 24 on 111 or speak to their GP. The route into formal mental health services is through a GP surgery.

  • If someone discloses to you that they are already being supported for their own mental health, it's useful to link them to where they are currently receiving support

Take some time out to breathe, it will regulate your system and enable you to think clearly about your next step.

How Do I Know If Coaching Is Right for Me?

Coaching works best when three things are true: you know something needs to change, you're willing to be honest about what's really going on, and you're ready to take action — not just talk about it.

If you're waiting until everything is perfect before starting, coaching probably isn't the right next step yet. But if you're feeling stuck, unclear, frustrated, or like you're capable of more than you're currently achieving — that's exactly where coaching begins.

You don't need to have it all figured out. You just need to be ready to show up.

Is coaching confidential?

Yes. All coaching sessions are conducted professionally and confidentially in accordance with GDPR requirements and coaching ethics.

Is Online Coaching as Effective as In-Person?

Yes — and the research backs this up.

Multiple studies comparing online and in-person coaching have found no significant difference in outcomes. What matters most is the quality of the coaching relationship, the structure of the sessions, and the commitment of the client — none of which depend on being in the same room.
